SLIGO CREEK MASSACRE: A Long Way Down

latest demos, miscellaneous mp3s

Around the Corner (Cobb) - home studio recording
... written and recorded May '10

I'm The One You Love (Cobb) - home studio recording
... written and recorded Jan 9-16 '10

Just A Song (Cobb) - home studio recording
... written and recorded Dec 19-20 '09

(Is This) What You Call Fun (Cobb) - home studio recording
... written and recorded Dec 12-13 '09, remixed Dec 19
... I always wanted to write a song with parentheses in the title...

The Girl from Osceola (Cobb) - home studio recording
... recorded 8-9 Nov, 2008... mixed 12 Nov, 2008...
... a southern gothic Girl From Ipanema
... with Michael on accordion

She (Cobb/Thompson) - home studio recording
... recorded sometime in 2008, finally got around to mixing 25 Oct, 2008...
Michael Travis Galindo on accordion and sax

La Javanaise (Gainsbourg)
... an early sixties jazzy/lounge style song written by Serge Gainsbourg. I think it's usually played in 6/8 time but I've kind of reggaefied it playing in a straight 4/4 time.

Dear Prudence (Lennon/McCartney) - live
... I believe this was the first time Michael and I ever played this live... June 2007. Michael doing some very nice improvising on a song he hardly knew and me getting only some of the lyrics right. I overdubbed a bass part.

Valentine's Day (Hillman) - home studio recording
... my version of a Bob Hillman song... recorded and mixed 22-28 Nov, 2008
... check out Bob's solo acoustic performance at the Kennedy Center's Millennium Stage: Bob Hillman at Kennedy Center

Stain (Cobb/Thompson) - home studio recording
... co-written with Desson Thompson... recorded 17-21 Nov 2008... mixed 22 Nov, 2008

Resurrection Town (Cobb) - live
... this is a live version recorded in June 2006. Michael playing sax because this was before he started playing accordion on this song. I'm thinking he should switch back to sax when we do it live because I love what he's doing on this version. That's Mike Holden heckling us at the beginning with an inside joke. I overdubbed a bass part to the live recording and mixed and "mastered" on 2 Jan, 2009.

Loser of the Year (Kaplan) - home studio recording
... my extremely laid back, country'ish version of my buddy Jon Kaplan's song Loser of the Year (think J.J. Cale on Quaaludes)... recorded Aug-Sept 2008, remixed Nov 2008

I recorded the main vocal on my patio in August so you can hear the cicada chorus pretty well. Also, since I was trying to be discrete I sang it at talking volume an octave lower than normal.

Loser of the Year (Kaplan) - live (21 Aug, 2008)
... Jon and I performing Loser of the Year live. I call this the "America" version...

These Things (Kaplan) - live (21 Aug, 2008)
... Jon and I performing live...

... here's video of the same performance...

other covers

You Don't Know How It Feels (Petty) - home studio recording
... A favorite and one of the few Tom Petty songs in my vocal range...
... recorded and mixed Dec 2007...
... with Michael on accordion...

Dead Flowers (Jagger/Richards) - home studio recording
... sharing vocals with Desson...
... recorded and mixed Dec 2007...
Need to add some accordion, Michael.

Take It Easy (Browne/Frey) - home studio recording
This version doesn't sound at all like the the Eagles version. Actually the only Eagles song I ever really liked... ok, and Hotel California but I've been sick of that one for over 20 years.
acoustic tuning: somehow I ended up with E A C# e a c# and capo on 5th fret.

other live stuff

9 Ball King
Maria
... with Michael on accordion, Oct 2006...

Live with Us (cowritten with Desson)
... with Michael on accordion, Jan 2007...

Moonshiner live - May 2007

miscellaneous mp3s

Fait Le Encore - home studio recording
Some day I may come up with lyrics and melody for this music but until I do the lyrics and melody of "Do It Again" fill in nicely. Sort of a folk-rock mashup... wheel turning round and round.
tuning: D A D f# g d.
